Building in Mirpur catches fire

A fire broke out on the third floor of an 11-storey building in Dhaka’s Mirpur-2 on Monday afternoon (March 9).

The blaze started around 2:00pm in a building located opposite the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, according to the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence.

On information, four firefighting units rushed to the scene and began efforts to bring the fire under control.

Fire service official Anwar Sikdar said two more units would be deployed if need.

At least four people were rescued alive from the building, while firefighters continued operations to fully extinguish the blaze.

No casualties have been confirmed so far, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
