The High Court has stayed for 15 days the effectiveness of a letter issued by BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul regarding councillor nominations from the ad-hoc committee.

The upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections are set to proceed smoothly following the latest development.

A bench comprising Justice Md. Mozibur Rahman Mia and Justice Biswajit Debnath passed the order on Monday (September 22) after hearing a writ petition filed by several councillors.

Senior lawyer Ruhul Quddus Kajol appeared for the petitioners, while Acting Attorney General Arshad Rauf represented the state.

The petitioners include Monjurul Alam of Rajbari, Jasim Uddin Khosru of Gopalganj, Moin Uddin Chowdhury of Lakshmipur, and Ali Imam of Tangail.

Ruhul Quddus Kajol told reporters that the validity of the letter, signed by the BCB president on September 18, has been challenged. The court also issued a rule seeking explanation within 10 days on the legality of nominating new councillors through the letter.

Additionally, previously nominated councillors, whose names were included in the list by September 17, will retain their voting rights.

The BCB elections are scheduled for October 6.
