Bullet-riddled body found in Rohingya Camp
A bullet-riddled body was recovered from the Nayapara registered Rohingya camp in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, by the Armed Police Battalion (APBN).
The body was found on Wednesday (January 14) morning in the Bikash Mor area of the Nayapara camp under Hnila Union of Teknaf upazila.
Inspector Sushanta Kumar Sarkar, in-charge of the APBN police camp at Nayapara, said the deceased was identified as Abdul Rahim (50), son of Habibur Rahman, a resident of Nayapara in Ward No. 7 of Hinla Union. According to police, Abdul Rahim was a listed robber and had multiple cases filed against him, including charges of robbery.
Inspector Sushanta Sarkar said local residents spotted a body lying by the roadside in the morning and informed the police. Later, police went to the scene and recovered the body, which had sustained gunshot wounds. Multiple bullet marks were found on the victim’s body.
Quoting locals, he added that several gunshots were heard in the Nayapara camp area around midnight on Monday. The following dawn, while going for Fajr prayers, people noticed the bloodstained body in the Bikash Mor area and alerted the police.
Police initially suspect that the killing may have occurred due to an internal feud within a robbery gang or a dispute over dominance. The APBN official said an investigation is underway to determine the exact motive behind the incident.
The body has been sent to the morgue of Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
