The daughter, 17, of Jasim Uddin, who was martyred by police firing in Dhaka during the July Movement, has been buried in Dumki Upazila of Patuakhali.

Her funeral prayers were held at Pangashia Secondary Girls' School ground on Sunday (April 27) around 7:45 pm, after which she was laid to rest in her family’s yard beside her father’s grave.

Attendees at the funeral included BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, National Citizens' Party (NCP) chief organizer Sarjis Alam, Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner Abu Hasnat Mohammad Arefin, Additional Police Superintendent Sajedul Islam, District BNP Convener Abdur Rashid Chunnu Mia, and Gono Odhikar Parishad high committee member Shahidul Islam Fahim, along with local political leaders.

Earlier, her hanging body was recovered from a rented house on Road No 6 in Shekhertek in Mohammadpur of Dhaka on Saturday (April 26) night. She was immediately taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Family sources revealed that while traveling to her grandparents' house, after visiting her father's grave in Patuakhali, Shaheed Jasim Uddin’s daughter was gang-raped on March 18. She later filed a case against the accused at the police station, which is currently under investigation. Meanwhile, the police have arrested two suspects, Sakib and Sifat, and handed them over to the court.

The family claims that after the rape, the girl suffered severe mental trauma. Social shame, neglect, and fear of not getting justice led her to extreme despair. It is suspected that this despair drove her to take her own life.

Regarding the incident, Dumki Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Zakir Hossain stated that an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of her death.
