Bus catches fire in Jashore, passengers narrowly escape

A passenger bus caught fire due to a mechanical fault in Jashore Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon, but all passengers managed to escape unharmed.

The incident occurred around 4:30 pm in the Fatepur area on the Jashore-Narail national highway. The bus was completely gutted in the fire.

According to witnesses, the bus, named 'Narail Express', was heading from Jashore to Dhaka when it reached Fatepur. Suddenly, the engine caught fire, and within moments, flames spread throughout the vehicle. Panicked passengers quickly exited through doors and windows.

Fire service and civil defence personnel arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control after about half an hour of effort. Traffic on the highway was briefly disrupted but later returned to normal.

Jashore Kotwali Model Police Station said the driver had reported an engine fault before departure. Despite this, the bus was directed by the management to begin its journey. Police said they are investigating the matter.
