Bus crashes into Kurmitola Hospital compound, one killed

A bus of Projapati Paribahan, travelling from Mohakhali towards Uttara in the capital, lost control and crashed into the premises of Kurmitola General Hospital. A hotel employee named Rafiqul Islam, who was standing on the footpath, was killed in the incident.

Two others, including a child on the bus, were injured in the accident. The incident occurred on Sunday (July 26) night.

Deputy Police Commissioner of Gulshan Division Tanvir Hasan confirmed the matter.

Eyewitnesses said the bus, coming from Mohakhali, lost control and hit the wall of the gas control room adjacent to the Kurmitola Hospital gate. One person died on the spot. Several others were injured. They were rescued and admitted to Kurmitola Hospital.

The accident-hit bus has been seized. The gas control room adjacent to the hospital gate was damaged. Cantonment Police Station detained the bus driver after the accident.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) of DMP's Cantonment Zone Nazmul Haque said the bus, having lost control, ran over a pedestrian, resulting in his death on the spot. The bus driver has been detained. The bus has also been seized. Legal action is underway.
