Bus driver assaults police officer over illegal parking fine in Gazipur

A highway police officer was assaulted after fining a bus driver for illegal parking that caused severe traffic congestion. Police have arrested three people, including the bus driver and his helper, and impounded the bus involved in the incident.

The incident occurred around 9:00 am on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Jaina Bazar, Gazipur Union, Shreepur Upazila. The injured officer, Constable Abdur Rob, 45, who also serves as a record keeper at Maona Highway Police Station, received medical treatment at a local hospital.

The arrested individuals include Zakir Hossain Sohel, 33, the driver of Imam Paribahan bus, his assistant Md. Arif Mia, 33, and Sohag, 25.

According to reports, the bus was illegally parked in the middle of Dhaka Lane to pick up passengers, causing a major traffic jam. When police signaled the driver to move the vehicle, he was fined. Immediately afterward, the driver and his helper became aggressive, falsely accusing the constable of accepting a bribe and physically assaulting him on the roadside. Several bystanders reportedly joined the attack.

Following reports, police apprehended the three accused in the Salna area. Officer-in-Charge Md. Ayub Ali confirmed that legal action is underway.
