Bus loses control, falls into ditch in Faridpur, 23 injured
At least 23 passengers were injured when a passenger bus lost control and overturned into a ditch on the side of the road at Nagarkanda in Faridpur on the Dhaka-Khulna highway.
The accident occurred in the Jhaturdia area of the upazila around 11:30am on Sunday (May 31). Four of the injured have been admitted to the Bhanga Upazila Health Complex. The rest have been given primary treatment.
According to fire service and eyewitness sources, a Khulna-bound ‘Al Barak’ passenger bus leaving Dhaka lost control and overturned on the left side of the highway shortly after crossing the bridge near Jhaturdia Bazar around 11:30am. There were about 35 passengers in the bus at the time of the accident.
On receiving the information, members of the Bhanga Highway Police Station and Fire Service reached the spot and started rescue work. The injured passengers have been rescued and admitted to the Bhanga Upazila Health Complex. However, the names of the injured were not immediately known.
In this regard, Nagarkanda Fire Service Station Manager Md. Shahinul Islam said that after receiving the information, they quickly reached the scene and took 27 injured people to Bhanga Hospital. The bus fell into a ditch about 50/60 feet below the highway.
Dr. Sharmin Akter Sweety, the on-duty doctor of Bhanga Upazila Health Complex, said that the condition of none of the 23 people admitted to the hospital is critical. The injured have been given primary treatment. Four people are admitted.
In this regard, Bhanga Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Helal Uddin said that the bus lost control in the Jhaturdia area and fell into a ditch on the side of the road.
