Bus overturns in ditch after collision with truck, 19 injured
At least 19 passengers were injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a brick-laden truck in Boalmari, Faridpur. The bus overturned into a roadside ditch, while the truck crashed into a power pole, damaging three electricity poles and causing temporary power outages in the surrounding area.
The accident occurred around 11:30am on Monday in the Paikhati area of Satair Union in Boalmari upazila, on the Majhkandi-Boalmari-Bhatiapara regional road.
According to eyewitnesses and local sources, a local passenger bus heading to Faridpur collided head-on with a brick-laden truck coming from the opposite direction. After the collision, the bus lost control and overturned into a roadside ditch. The truck crashed into a pole adjacent to the gate of an electricity substation and got stuck.
At least 19 people, including drivers and helpers of both vehicles, were injured. Locals rescued the injured and sent them to Boalmari Upazila Health Complex. Traffic was temporarily disrupted and power supply was suspended following the accident.
Boalmari Rural Electrification Zonal Office DGM Utpal Mandal said he visited the scene after the accident and found three electricity poles damaged.
Boalmari Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Kobayed Hossain said police rescued the injured and sent them to the upazila health complex. After about half an hour, with local cooperation, the road was cleared and traffic was restored. The drivers and helpers of both vehicles are receiving treatment at the health complex.
The police official said the process of taking both vehicles to the police station is underway. Legal proceedings are ongoing.
