Bus overturns with 40 passengers in Rangamati
A bus carrying some 40 to 45 passengers overturned on a hilly road in Rangamati.
The accident occurred in the Sapchhari area of the Rangamati-Chattogram National Highway around 11:30am on Thursday (March 26).
According to local sources, the bus was travelling from Naniarchar upazila of Rangamati to Chattogram. The passengers, who were working in a garment factory, were returning to Chittagong after the Eid holidays. On the way, the driver of the bus lost his control over the steering on the hilly and winding road and the bus overturned.
After the accident, locals quickly came forward for rescue work and sent the injured to the hospital.
Saiful Islam Shakil, executive president of the Rangamati-Chattogram Motor Owners Association, said that many passengers were injured in the accident. One seriously injured person has been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital and several others have been admitted to Rangamati General Hospital.
Dr. Shawkat Akbar Khan said a total of 19 injured people were treated in the incident. Of them, 12 were admitted to the hospital and one was referred to Chattogram for better treatment.
