The recovery operation began around 10:30am after the salvage vessel ‘Hamza’ reached the site. The bus was retrieved from the river and lifted onto a ferry by around 11:55am, officials said.

The incident took place earlier in the morning at around 9:30am at Ferry Ghat No. 7 in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari.

According to officials, the SB Paribahan bus lost control and plunged into the river from the pontoon while approaching the ferry terminal. However, authorities confirmed that no passengers were on board at the time of the accident as they had already disembarked before the vehicle fell into the river.

The driver and assistant were rescued and sent to a local hospital for treatment, officials added. No fatalities were reported.

Assistant General Manager of BIWTC Daulatdia terminal office Mohammad Salahuddin confirmed the incident, saying the bus went into the river while maneuvering at the ferry ghat area.

Authorities said further investigation is underway into how the vehicle lost control at the busy ferry terminal.
