Bus rams motorbike at Padma Bridge toll plaza, 2 killed
Two motorcycle riders were killed after being hit by a passenger bus on the southern side of the Padma Bridge along the Dhaka–Bhanga Expressway.
The accident occurred around 11:30 pm on Saturday (August 2) in the Padma Bridge South Police Station area of Jajira Upazila in Shariatpur.
One of the victims was Mohammad Ali Ontu (26), son of Golam Kibria from Joynabari area of Hemayetpur in Savar of Dhaka. The identity of the other victim is yet to be known.
Zahirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Shibchar Highway Police Station in Madaripur, said, “Mohammad Ali Ontu and another young man were heading towards Bhanga in Faridpur from Dhaka on a motorcycle. After crossing the Padma Bridge toll plaza, a passenger bus hit their bike from behind, crushing it badly.”
“Both riders were thrown off the bike and fell into a roadside ditch. They died on the spot. Highway police recovered the bodies after arriving at the scene. However, the bus fled before it could be identified,” he added.
