Bus services on Dhaka-Mymensingh route suspended indefinitely
Bus services on the Dhaka–Mymensingh route have been suspended indefinitely following the arrest of a transport worker, causing severe suffering for passengers.
Many who had purchased advance tickets were left stranded and searching for alternative transport.
The indefinite strike, enforced by transport owners and workers, began at 6am on Sunday (October 12), disrupting services from Sherpur, Jamalpur, Netrokona, and Kishoreganj as well.
Police said the unrest began after a transport worker, Arun Jhantu, allegedly misbehaved with freedom fighter Abu Raihan on a bus in Haluaghat Friday night. Following protests by members of the anti-discrimination student movement, police detained the worker.
Mymensingh District Motor Owners’ Association President Alamgir Mahmud Alam said bus operations will remain suspended until the arrested worker is released and restrictions on the affected transport services are withdrawn.
