Businessman found dead with hands, feet tied in Bangshal
Police have recovered the body of a cloth merchant with his hands and feet tied from a rented flat in the capital's Bangshal area. The deceased has been identified as Nisar Ali, 50, of Shyamalgachi village in Sharsha upazila, Jashore.
The body was recovered around noon on Tuesday, May 12, from the first floor of 16/3 Bagdasa Lane in Nayabazar. Police initially suspect he was strangled to death. Investigators believe it to be a premeditated murder.
Bangshal Police Station OC A K M Mahfuzul Haque said Nisar Ali had some cash for business purposes, though the exact motive for the murder has not yet been confirmed. The body was sent to the morgue for autopsy.
According to police and local sources, Nisar Ali had rented the flat about three months ago and lived alone. The landlord, Mohammad Hossain Babu, began calling out after noticing a light on in his room around 1:00 pm on Tuesday. After receiving no response for a long time, he moved the door curtain and saw someone lying with their legs tied. Neighbours were called, and upon entering the room, they found the body with hands and feet tied on the bed. Police arrived after receiving a call to 999.
Police believe the murder occurred sometime between 11:00 pm on Monday and 1:00 pm on Tuesday.
Family sources said Nisar Ali was involved in the cloth business in Islampur. His son, Md Emran, is a final-year honours student at Dhaka New Model College and lives in a mess in the Maniknagar Cumilla Patti area.
