Businessman killed by falling gas cylinder in Dhaka
A businessman was killed after a gas cylinder reportedly fell from a multi-storey building and struck him on the head in Kamrangirchar of Dhaka on Tuesday night (September 15).
The victim, identified as Jamal, was standing in front of his home in Noorbagh’s Purano Police Fari Goli around 9pm when the cylinder allegedly fell onto the tin roof of his house before hitting him.
Jamal was critically injured and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 10pm, according to hospital sources.
His wife, Beauty, said two multi-storey buildings—one five storeys and the other six—stand on either side of their tin-shed home. She said it was unclear which building the cylinder had fallen from.
Jamal, a small businessman, lived in the area with his family.
Habibur Rahman, inspector and in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body had been kept in the hospital morgue and the relevant police station had been informed.
Police have yet to determine how or from which building the gas cylinder fell.
