CA breached July Charter he signed himself: Salahuddin Ahmed
BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has alleged that the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, has violated the July National Charter, which he himself had signed.
He made the allegation on Thursday, November 13, in his immediate reaction to Professor Yunus’s address to the nation.
He said the Chief Adviser himself signed the July National Charter at the South Plaza of the National Parliament on October 17, which he has now violated through his speech.
In his address, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus explained how the July National Charter or the proposed reforms would be implemented. He said the national election and the referendum would be held on the same day. The parliament would be bicameral, and based on the proportion of votes received by the parties in the national election, an upper house consisting of 100 members would be formed. Any constitutional amendment would require approval from a majority of the upper house members.
Regarding this, BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed said that the issue of the upper house of parliament had already been settled through a “note of dissent” under the PR National Consensus Commission. There is no scope to impose it again.
He also said that the so-called “Constitutional Reform Council” was not a matter discussed at any stage of the Consensus Commission. It is an entirely new concept.
