Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the interim government, will depart Dhaka tonight for Japan to attend the Nikkei International Conference in Tokyo. The four-day official visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Japan.

During the visit, both countries are expected to sign seven agreements and memorandums of understanding, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At a press briefing on Monday, Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddiqui announced that Bangladesh will request a loan assistance package of one billion dollars on favorable terms from Japan. Discussions will also focus on sending skilled labor to Japan’s labor market.

The Foreign Ministry views this visit as a significant opportunity to open new avenues for Bangladesh, particularly in exporting trained manpower to Japan.

Dr. Yunus’s visit will continue until May 30. Participation in the Nikkei conference, along with bilateral talks, is anticipated to deepen the relationship between the two nations.
