Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to deliver his address today (Friday) at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
According to the official schedule, the session will commence at 9:00am (local time), with Professor Yunus speaking as the 10th speaker of the day.
In his speech, the Chief Adviser is expected to highlight key reform measures undertaken by the interim government, the aspirations behind the July 2024 people's movement, the government’s commitment to holding free and fair elections by February 2026, and justice for the July massacre.
He is also anticipated to address the ongoing Rohingya crisis.
At a press briefing on Thursday, Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam stated that Professor Yunus would present a comprehensive overview of the interim government's 14-month-long reform agenda and the country’s economic recovery progress. He will also emphasize initiatives taken to ensure a democratic transition.
The press secretary noted, “The core message will be a reaffirmation to the global community: Bangladesh will hold a peaceful, credible, and participatory national election by 15 February next year.”
