For the first time in the country, a Civil Surgeon conference is being held to reform the health sector. The two-day event will be inaugurated by Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government.

The Ministry of Health is optimistic that the conference, inspired by the District Commissioners' conference, will offer a platform to address challenges and issues in field-level healthcare and facilitate effective policy decisions.

The conference, set to begin on Monday (May 12) at the Shaheed Abu Sayed International Convention Center in Dhaka, will run until Tuesday (May 13). Civil surgeons from all 64 districts, along with advisors, secretaries, and senior officials from relevant ministries, will attend.

Prior to the conference, civil surgeons were asked to submit reports on healthcare status, challenges, and recommendations from their respective districts. These reports will inform the development of action plans and strategies during the conference sessions.

During the inauguration, two civil surgeons will address the country’s overall healthcare issues. Other discussion topics will include the health sector’s role in preventing child marriage, improving rural healthcare, implementing vaccination programs, addressing staffing shortages, resolving infrastructure issues, and ensuring transparency and accountability in budget allocation.

Health officials stated that the conference aims not only to highlight challenges but also to explore potential opportunities. This will pave the way for structural changes in the healthcare system and reinforce administrative accountability.
