CA visits Chattogram port
For the first time as the Chief Adviser, Nobel Laureate economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus has visited his home district of Chattogram. On Wednesday (May 14), he arrived at Shah Amanat International Airport at 9:15am. Officials from the Chattogram administration formally received him at the airport.
From the airport, the Chief Adviser went directly to visit the Chattogram Port. He participated in a meeting held at the NCT-5 premises of the port. There, he exchanged views with senior officials from the shipping and port sectors, representatives of port users’ associations, and leaders of business organizations.
According to the official itinerary, he will next go to the Chattogram Circuit House. There, he will unveil the foundation stone of the Kalurghat Bridge over the Karnaphuli River and review the progress of the Chittagong city waterlogging reduction project and the Oxygen-Hathazari road development. Additionally, during an event at the Circuit House, he will officially hand over the registered deed for 23 acres of land allocated to Chittagong Heart Foundation Hospital to the concerned authorities.
At noon, Dr. Yunus will leave the Circuit House for the University of Chittagong. He will attend the university’s 5th convocation as the chief guest, which will be held at the central sports field. In this convocation, certificates will be awarded to approximately 22,600 students from academic years 2011 to 2023. Also, 22 PhD degrees will be conferred for the years 2015 to 2025.
In recognition of his extraordinary contributions to poverty alleviation through microcredit and promoting peace across the world, the University of Chittagong will award Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus an honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) degree.
Later in the day, he will visit his ancestral home in Bathua village, located in Shikarpur Union of Hathazari Upazila. He is expected to spend time there with relatives, neighbors, and local residents until 6pm. He will leave Chattogram by plane later that evening.
