The Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid, will inform Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on the demands of protesting officials and employees seeking the repeal of the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance 2025’.

ASM Saleh Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Land and convener of the committee formed to resolve the ongoing crisis at the Secretariat, confirmed this after meeting with the Cabinet Secretary on Wednesday.

During a recent meeting with employees, Saleh Ahmed conveyed their demands and concerns about the ordinance to the Cabinet Secretary. The Cabinet Secretary then informed the committee that the Chief Advisor is expected to return from Japan on May 31, after which the employees’ demands will be formally presented to him. Further action will depend on the Chief Advisor’s decision.

Saleh Ahmed emphasized that since this matter involves government policy, a resolution must come from the highest level of government.

The protesting officials and employees had temporarily suspended their agitation on Tuesday after discussions with responsible secretaries at the Secretariat.

Earlier that day, a seven-member committee was formed during an emergency meeting led by the Cabinet Secretary to review the ordinance. The Land Secretary was assigned to communicate with employee representatives.

The protesters label the ordinance as “repressive and unjust” and demand its repeal. They warned that failure to withdraw it would result in continued agitation. They also threatened to lock all rooms in the Ministry of Law if necessary.

The protestors argue that the 1979 government service provisions, which were previously annulled by the highest court, should not be revived through this ordinance, as it undermines employee rights and fuels conflict with officials.
