Mehet Mamun, the eldest daughter of expelled BNP leader and former president of the National Press Club, has sought the Prime Minister's intervention for the release of Shaukat Mahmud.

In a press release sent to the media, she sought this intervention on Thursday (April 2).

The release said that Mehet Mamun recently appealed to the Prime Minister for Shaukat Mahmud's release. At the same time, the family is continuing to communicate with various relevant departments, including the Home Ministry.

In the application sent to the Prime Minister, Mehet Mamun mentioned that her father was associated with nationalist politics throughout his life and worked as a trusted companion of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. He also played a role in organizing the journalist community by nurturing the ideals of martyred President Ziaur Rahman. Because of this, he had to be a victim of harassment at various times and served a long one and a half years in prison in about 70 cases during the Awami League government.

Mehet Mamun alleged that Shaukat Mahmud was arrested in a false case on December 7 last year. He was dragged into a case with which he had no connection. Later, after getting bail in a case, he was shown arrested again in a previous case, which he believes is harassment.

The petition further states that even while in prison, Shaukat Mahmud inquired about the Prime Minister and congratulated him on returning to the country on December 25 after a long exile. At the same time, it was also reported that he was mentally broken due to the death of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

Shaukat Mahmud's daughter claimed that a group is systematically implicating her father in one case after another based on false information. She even alleged that she was falsely implicated in an incident organized by some Awami League members.
