Calling BNP fascist reflects political ignorance: Mirza Fakhrul

Those who label BNP as a fascist party suffer from a lack of political knowledge and understanding of history, said the party's Secretary General and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after inaugurating the newly constructed divisional office of the Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) at the central bus terminal area in Rangpur city on Monday afternoon.

Mirza Fakhrul said BNP is a democratic political party. Those who have recently been branding BNP as a fascist party lack political knowledge and historical understanding.

On Jamaat-e-Islami, he said it is for the party's own leaders to assess whether it is democratic or not. There is no need to comment on the matter.

Regarding the presidential election, the BNP secretary general said the election will be held in due time according to the constitution, and BNP will nominate its candidate for the presidency as per the party's decision.

The event was attended by Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Shahidul Islam, Rangpur Development Authority Chairman Shamsuzzaman Samu, District Council Administrator Saiful Islam, senior BRDB officials and BNP leaders and activists from various levels.
