Cancer hospital DD stabbed over tender dispute, 5 held
Five persons have been detained by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in connection with the stabbing of a deputy director of the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital in the capital.
RAB Headquarters Deputy Director (Media) Major Lutfor Rahman Hadi confirmed the detention around 11:45am on Tuesday (April 21).
He said the incident, which took place on Monday, involved a coordinated attack on Dr. Ahmad Hossain, deputy director of the hospital. The suspects were detained within 24 hours of the incident, including the main accused.
According to police, Dr. Hossain was attacked by two miscreants with sharp weapons while returning home after duty. The incident occurred in a narrow alley behind the BRAC University campus.
He was initially taken to the cancer hospital in injured condition and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Law enforcement sources said the victim had reportedly been receiving threats from an international number for some time, allegedly demanding the awarding of a tender. Investigators believe the attack may be linked to a criminal group involved in tender-related intimidation.
Authorities said further investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances behind the attack and identify any additional accomplices.
