A 71-year-old lung cancer patient has died from COVID-19 complications while receiving intensive care treatment at Chattogram General Hospital, marking the second coronavirus-related death in the city this month.

The deceased, Fazilatunnesa, a resident of the Baklia area, passed away on Friday after being admitted to the ICU last Tuesday.

She had tested positive for COVID-19 while already battling lung cancer, according to a press release issued by the Chattogram Civil Surgeon’s Office on Saturday afternoon (June 21).

Civil Surgeon Dr. Jahangir Alam confirmed the fatality and noted her pre-existing condition likely exacerbated the virus’s impact.

Meanwhile, six new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the last 24 hours. According to the Civil Surgeon’s report, two cases were detected at Epic Healthcare, three at Chevron Clinical Laboratory, and one at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
