Candidate caught at viva after getting another to sit written test

Police have detained a young man named Zahirul Islam on charges of having another person sit the written examination in his place for recruitment to the post of office assistant in the revenue branch of the Patuakhali district administration. He was caught after passing the written examination and coming to sit the oral examination.

He was detained during the oral examination at the Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner's office on Saturday afternoon, September 26. Zahirul Islam is the son of Amir Hossain Howlader of the Batkajal area of Naumala union in Bauphal upazila of Patuakhali.

According to police and district administration sources, the written examination for recruitment to the 20th grade office assistant post under the district revenue administration was held at the Commerce Building of Patuakhali Government College on Friday, September 25. Around 3,900 candidates participated in it against 10 vacant posts. Of them, 59 passed the written examination and were called for the oral examination the next day.

While sitting the oral examination, officials noticed a mismatch between Zahirul's handwriting and the handwriting in the written examination answer script. At the same time, he failed to answer various questions from the viva board satisfactorily, which raised the officials' suspicions.

Later, when he was interrogated, he at one point admitted that someone else had sat the written examination in his place, police said.

Patuakhali Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Moniruzzaman said Zahirul Islam was detained on charges of adopting unfair means in the recruitment examination of the Deputy Commissioner's office. There are allegations that someone else sat the written examination on his behalf. Preparations are underway to file a case against him over the incident.
