Cannot specify the exact time for announcing the results: Chief Election Commissioner
Despite the conclusion of voting for the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) on Thursday evening, the final results remain pending as of Friday night, with no clear timeline for announcement.
Voting began at 9:00 am on Thursday and was scheduled to end by 5:00 pm. However, delays in several halls extended the process well beyond the allotted time. As of Friday evening, vote counting was still underway.
At a press briefing held around 7:30 pm at the Election Commission office, Chief Election Commissioner Professor Moniruzzaman addressed the media, stating, “We cannot specify the exact time for announcing the results. It may take the entire night. We are facing certain limitations, particularly in manpower. The number of individuals involved in counting is limited, but we are working to increase that so we can publish the results by tonight.”
Earlier in the day, Professor Moniruzzaman met with candidates from various panels, including GS candidate Mazharul Islam from the Shibir-supported ‘Combined Student Alliance’, VP candidate Arifuzzaman Uzzal from the BAGSAS-backed ‘Student Unity Forum’, and independent VP candidate Abdur Rashid Jitu from the ‘Independent Student Convention’.
During the discussion, the commissioner reportedly said, “It may take another ninety-two hours to complete the vote counting. We are trying to increase the workforce to expedite the process.”
As students and candidates await the outcome, the delay has sparked concern across campus, with many calling for greater transparency and efficiency in the electoral process.
