State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam has announced that all sacrificial waste generated during Eid-ul-Azha in the capital will be removed by 2:00am, as authorities intensify efforts to keep the city clean and hygienic.

The announcement came after the minister inspected waste removal operations at the dumping station in Mirpur-12 of the capital on Thursday (May 28).

Speaking to journalists, he said both Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation began large-scale waste removal activities shortly after noon with the goal of clearing sacrificial waste before the scheduled deadline.

“To ensure a clean and livable city, waste removal operations will be completed even before the officially designated timeframe,” the state minister said.

According to him, around 16,000 officials and sanitation workers have been deployed across the capital for the operation. In addition, 752 different vehicles are being used to carry out uninterrupted waste collection and transportation throughout the city.

During the inspection, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan urged city residents to cooperate with municipal authorities and follow city corporation guidelines to support the smooth disposal of sacrificial waste.

Authorities say rapid waste removal is aimed at preventing foul odour, environmental pollution and potential public health risks following Eid-ul-Azha animal sacrifices across the capital.
