CA's election timeline announcement disappoints nation: Mirza Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that not only his party but the entire nation is disappointed by Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus’s announcement to hold national elections in April 2026 instead of by December 2025.
Speaking to reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport upon his return from Bangkok early Friday night (June 6), Mirza Fakhrul said, “We have always demanded timely elections, and we expected that the election date would be announced for December. But instead, the Chief Advisor has declared elections in April. This has disappointed not just us, but the entire nation.”
The BNP leader returned to Dhaka at 1:25am on a Thai Airways flight after receiving eye treatment in Bangkok. He was accompanied by his wife, Rahat Ara Begum.
Mirza Fakhrul noted that the party will release an official statement after internal discussions. He also took the opportunity to extend Eid-ul-Azha greetings to the nation and thanked everyone who prayed for his recovery.
Mirza Fakhrul had left for Bangkok on May 13 on medical advice from doctors at United Hospital in Dhaka.
