Two special assistants to the Chief Adviser, Sheikh Moinuddin and Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, visited Syed Shadid Nasif, a BUET student from the 2020 batch, who is receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital following a recent injury. During the visit on Friday evening, the representatives expressed regret on behalf of the government.

According to an official statement released on the Chief Adviser’s Facebook page, Shadid is currently admitted to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College. Present during the visit were Shadid’s father, mother, sister, and other relatives.

Shadid’s mother became emotional and requested assurances that no force or violence would be used against her son or other students in the future. The delegation expressed sorrow over the incident and noted that for the first time in Bangladesh’s history, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) chief publicly expressed regret on behalf of the police.

The representatives spoke with all family members and inquired about Shadid’s treatment. His father is a college teacher in Rangpur, and his sister is a student at Dhaka University. The special assistants assured the family that Shadid would receive all necessary medical support and, if required, advanced treatment.

Doctors confirmed that Shadid’s surgery was successful and he is currently in stable condition. However, the next five days are critical, and the medical team will decide whether to transfer him to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) based on his recovery progress.

The statement also mentioned that the delegation, on behalf of the Chief Adviser and the committee addressing grievances of government engineers, expressed condolences to the family on behalf of committee chief M. Fawzul Kabir Khan. They also extended sincere thanks to the support staff, nurses, and medical team.

Later, the delegation met with some of Shadid’s batchmates and organizers of the ongoing engineering rights movement. The discussions emphasized the importance of standing by the family and called for a peaceful and rational resolution of the undergraduate engineering students’ demands.
