Case filed against 49 over 'poisoning' drinking water at police camp

Police have filed a case against 49 individuals over allegations of mixing poison into the drinking water at a police camp in the notorious jungle area of Salimpur in Sitakunda upazila, Chattogram. A total of 34 people have been named in the case, with another 15 unidentified individuals also made accused.

The case was filed on Monday (July 27) morning at Sitakunda Model Police Station.

Confirming the matter, Sitakunda Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mahinul Islam said investigations are ongoing to identify those involved. Necessary legal action will be taken against those found connected to the incident.

Earlier, on Sunday (July 26) morning, allegations surfaced that poisonous substances had been mixed into the drinking water at the police camp set up in the Alinagar area of Jungle Salimpur. Three police personnel fell ill after drinking the water and were hospitalised.

Following the incident, police collected samples of the suspicious water and sent them to a laboratory for testing. The results will confirm whether any toxic substance was present.

Based on preliminary investigations, police suspect that a known criminal group may have made a planned attempt to carry out this sabotage with the aim of forcing law enforcement to withdraw from the area. However, police have declined to make any final comments until the investigation is completed.
