Case filed against 5 Anti-Discrimination student leaders
A case has been filed against five anti-discrimination student leaders for allegedly attempting to extort Tk 50 lakh from former reserved women’s seat MP Shammi Ahmed at her Gulshan residence. The accused have been shown as arrested, police confirmed on Sunday.
According to Anjuman Ara, duty officer of Gulshan police station, the victim herself lodged the complaint against the five coordinators, leading to the extortion case.
The arrested include Ibrahim Hossain Munna, convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Dhaka Metropolitan Branch; members Md. Sakadawn and Sadab; senior organizer Abdur Razzak bin Sulaiman alias Riyad; and Aminul Islam.
Police said the five suspects initially demanded Tk 50 lakh, claiming to be coordinators. As Shammi Ahmed was absent, the demand was made to her husband. A few days earlier, the suspects had already took Tk 10 lakh from the house.
The suspects returned Saturday evening to collect gold jewelry. Following a tip-off from the family, police arrested them at the residence and brought them to the station for questioning.
The investigation is ongoing.
