Case filed against domestic worker over killing of mother-daughter in Mohammadpur
A case has been filed against a domestic worker named Ayesha over the killing of Layla Afroze, 48, and her daughter Nafisa Lawal Binte Aziz, 15, in Mohammadpur.
Officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur police station Mezbah Uddin confirmed the matter on Tuesday afternoon, December 9.
He said the victim’s husband Azizul Islam filed the murder case with the police. A drive is underway to arrest accused Ayesha.
Analysis of CCTV footage from the building shows that at around 7am Nafisa’s father left home for school. At 7:51am, the burqa-clad domestic worker Ayesha went up to the seventh floor by lift. Later, at 9:35am, she was seen leaving in Nafisa’s school uniform, wearing a face mask and carrying a bag.
Police recovered the bodies from their apartment on Monday morning. Nafisa had multiple severe injuries to her neck and Layla had several wound marks on her body. Initial evidence suggests they were attacked with sharp objects, likely while the assailant wore gloves.
Family sources said Azizul returned home at around 11:30am and found the bodies. They said the domestic worker had been hired only four days earlier through the building caretaker. She refused to provide identity details or a contact number, but claimed her parents had died in a fire, and that she had suffered burns as well.
On Tuesday morning, the bodies were taken to Baragacha area of Sadar upazila in Natore, where many expressed grief. Following funeral prayers after Zohr, they were laid to rest.
