Case filed for attack on ZI Khan Panna's daughter, one held

A case has been filed in Barisal over the attack on Advocate Nadima Mohammadi Khan, 39, daughter of human rights activist and Supreme Court lawyer ZI Khan Panna. Police have arrested one person in this incident. The incident took place at ZI Khan Panna's family house on Sadar Road in the city on Saturday (July 18) night.

Nadima Mohammadi Khan alleged that when she went to the family house with one of her cousins ​​on Saturday, some youths were throwing garbage inside the house and consuming and dealing drugs. When she protested, they got into an argument. At one stage, a group of 25 to 30 people attacked them. During the attack, she called the national emergency service 999.

She further alleged that the attack was instigated by her uncle Nazrul Islam Khan. She claimed that the attack was carried out to deprive her of her ancestral property and prevent her from coming home.

The injured Nadima sought treatment at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Later, she filed a case with the Barisal Kotwali Model Police Station on Sunday morning. Five people, including her uncle Nazrul Islam Khan, have been named as accused in the case. Other accused include Rezaul Islam Sabbir and Zahidul Islam Raju.

The case statement states that an organized group of drug addicts and drug dealers attacked Nadima with the aim of depriving her of her ancestral property and demanding a ransom of Tk10 lakh.

Al Mamun ul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Barisal Kotwali Police Station, said that a person named Chandni has been arrested in the incident. The operation to arrest the other accused is ongoing.

Acting Commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police Md. Hannan said that the incident is being investigated with utmost importance. The Detective Branch (DB) is conducting an operation to arrest the accused. No one involved in the incident will be spared.
