Case filed for gang-raping housewife after torturing husband in Bhola
A case has been filed against some leaders and activists of Sramik Dal, Jubo Dal, College Chhatra Dal in Bhola's Tajumuddin Upazila for gang-raping a housewife on last Sunday.
The victim's husband, a resident of Tajumuddin Upazila currently living in Dhaka, returned home about two weeks ago. Last Saturday, he was invited to his second wife's house, where a group of five to six men—including local leaders of Sramik Dal Joint General Secretary Md Farid Uddin, Jubo Dal activist Md Alauddin, Tajumuddin Government College Chhatra Dal President Md Rasel Ahmed (alias Rasel Rana)—allegedly stormed in, beat him with rods and hammers, and demanded Tk 4 lakh. When he refused, they locked him in a room and tortured him overnight.
The next morning, his first wife arrived and was also assaulted. When she pleaded for his release, the attackers reduced their demand to Tk 1 lakh. After she called for money, the men took the husband outside under the pretense of having tea, leaving her behind.
After taking her husband out, the terrorists blocked the doors and windows of the house and raped her. Upon hearing her screaming, other women of that house tried to save her by open the doors and windows but they ultimately failed.
"The attackers released them on the condition that they remain silent about the incident. Traumatized, the first wife returned to the village and made several suicide attempts, but was rescued by locals each time. Eventually, after sharing their ordeal with villagers, the community called the emergency helpline 999 to alert the police," the victim couple said.
Confirming the matter, Tajumuddin Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohabbat Khan, said, "A case was officially filed on Monday based-on the couple's complaint, with seven individuals named as accused."
