Case filed over attack on DU bus after dispute over seating row
A Dhaka University (DU) bus was attacked and vandalised in Fatullah, Narayanganj, following an altercation over a female student seating her husband beside her on the bus. A case has been filed in this connection, naming three individuals and 30 unidentified others.
According to the case statement, on the night of Thursday, August 6, while the DU bus named 'Ananda' was heading to Narayanganj, Dipti Hossain and her husband Mikat sat beside each other in the Bhuiyghar area of Fatullah. Zararaf Rahman Rashha, a fourth-year student of the Finance Department, requested them to sit in the designated seats for male and female passengers as per bus rules. This led to an argument between both sides.
The complaint states that Dipti and her husband then phoned locals to the Bhuiyghar bus stand. Around 8:30pm, approximately 30 people stopped the bus and attacked the students. Rashha, her friend Ahammed Raihan, classmate Mosih Mostak and several others were injured. The attackers allegedly snatched mobile phones and cash from the students and also smashed several window panes at the back of the bus on both sides.
A case was filed at Fatullah Model Police Station on Friday, August 7, based on a complaint by Zararaf Rahman Rashha.
Fatullah Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahbub Alam said the case has been registered and operations are underway to arrest those involved in the attack.
