A case has been filed in connection with the forced haircut of an elderly man, Halim Uddin Akand, in Kodalia village under Kashiganj of Mymensingh.

The victim’s son, Shahid Akand, filed the case at Tarakanda Police Station on Saturday (September 27). “Those responsible must be held accountable,” he demanded.

The incident, which occurred on June 5, resurfaced recently after a video of the act went viral on social media, sparking widespread public outrage.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the filing of the case, stating that seven individuals have been named, while four to five unidentified persons have also been accused.

Due to the ongoing investigation, identities of the accused are being withheld, said the officer-in-charge of Tarakanda Police Station.

According to the victim, a group of men forcibly brought him outside and cut his hair after he declined repeated requests to join them for tea and snacks. Halim Uddin expressed deep emotional trauma and said he felt socially humiliated by the act.

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), a Human Rights Organisation, strongly condemned the incident, labeling it a blatant violation of bodily integrity and fundamental human rights.

"Efforts are underway to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice," the ASP affirmed.
