The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has launched nine apps and software to improve citizen services, traffic management, and police professionalism. Authorities have also announced plans to monitor the entire capital through 11,000 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.

The new software and apps include an AI-based traffic law violation detection system, a hotel boarder information system, a 'Hello DMP' app, an online training system, and a duty distribution system for traffic police, among others.

Officials launched the digital services on Wednesday, 29 April, at the DMP headquarters in the capital. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir attended the event as the chief guest, while acting DMP Commissioner Md Sarwar was also present.

IGP Fakir said artificial intelligence will be used to overcome the personnel shortage in traffic management. He noted that criminals are now using new methods, requiring police to make maximum use of technology.

The acting DMP commissioner, Md Sarwar, said tenant information in the capital would also be digitised. The goal is to bring the entire city under surveillance.

A joint initiative of Dhaka city corporations and DMP has set up signals and cameras at 25 intersections, with plans to expand the network gradually. The system is designed to enhance intelligence operations and security monitoring by digitally storing information about hotel guests.
