CEC to meet US envoy this afternoon

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin is scheduled to meet US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Tracy Ann Jacobson this afternoon, (Monday, September 1).

The meeting will be held at 2:00pm at the Election Commission Secretariat in Agargaon, Dhaka, according to CEC’s Personal Secretary Ashraful Alam.

Officials at the Election Commission (EC) said the discussion is expected to focus on electoral issues and bilateral cooperation, ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.

The meeting was initially scheduled for last Thursday but was postponed due to a road blockade in the Agargaon area.

This marks the first official meeting between the CEC and representatives of the US Embassy since August 5 last year.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has announced its roadmap for the 13th parliamentary elections. On Thursday (August 28), EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed revealed that the commission has adopted 24 action plans to ensure a fair and participatory electoral process.

As part of the roadmap, the EC will begin holding dialogues with political parties and other stakeholders starting September 15, which will continue through October.
