Central JCD leader detained from Rabindranath Hall at JU
Hafizur Rahman Sohan, central vice-president of the Nationalist Student League, was detained on Thursday morning for allegedly staying illegally on campus during the ongoing Central Student Union (JUCSU) election.
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. when Sohan was found in a room at the World Poet Rabindranath Tagore Hall. Sohan is a former student of the English Department, belonging to the 36th batch (academic year 2006-07).
Sohan explained, “I came to campus last night and, feeling unwell, I rested in the hall. However, I did not have permission to stay in the residential hall.”
Professor Shafiqur Islam, Provost of Rabindranath Hall, said, “The presence of former students in residential halls during elections violates university regulations. Therefore, he was handed over to the university’s proctorial body.”
Proctor Professor A.K.M. Rashidul Alam confirmed, “Security personnel were sent to detain him. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken according to university rules.”
