Chandan, Kafee elected CPB President and General Secretary
Sajjad Zahir Chandan has been elected president of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) for a four-year term, while Abdullah Kafee Ratan has been chosen as the new general secretary.
The announcements came during the first meeting of the newly elected 43-member central committee, held Wednesday (September 24) at Mukti Bhaban in Purana Paltan following the CPB’s 13th congress.
Chandan, a former central student union president and ex-general secretary of the Bangladesh Krishak Samity, previously served as a presidium member. Ratan, also a presidium member, is president of the Bangladesh Youth Union and among the founders of the Garment Workers Trade Union Centre.
The new presidium includes Mujahidul Islam Selim, Rafiquzzaman Laek, S.A. Rashid, Ragib Ahsan Munna, Jolly Talukder, and Aminul Farid. Outgoing president Shah Alam and general secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince remain central committee members.
The newly elected leadership will steer the party’s political and organizational activities for the next four years.
