Chandpur ship murder: Father dies from grief over son's death
Father of a victim aboard the MV Al-Bakhera ship in Haimchar, Chandpur, died from grief over his son's murder.
Daud Molla, the father of one of the seven victims Sajibul Islam, and a resident of Palashbaria Union in Mohammadpur Upazila, Magura. He passed away on Thursday night (December 26) due to the unbearable grief of his son's death.
Abdur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohammadpur Police Station, confirmed the matter.
He said, "We received the news of Sajibul's father, Dawood Mollah, passing away last night. This is a heartbreaking tragedy. The murder on that ship has not only claimed their lives but has also left their families into immense grief and uncertainty."
Locals stated that many people from the border areas of Magura and Narail work on ships and have urged for effective measures to prevent such brutal incidents from happening again.
Earlier on Monday, the naval police recovered the bodies of seven people from the MV Al-Bakhera ship anchored in the Meghna River near the Ishanbala Canal in Haimchar, Chandpur. The victims, all crew members, were killed with sharp weapons while asleep, with throat cuts, head wounds, and other injuries found on their bodies.
However, police assured that an investigation is ongoing, and efforts are underway to arrest the perpetrators involved in the killing.
