Residents of more than 50 villages in Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr today, aligning their observance with several Arab countries.

The main Eid congregation will be held at 9:00am at the Sadra Darbar Sharif Ground, led by Pirzada Zakaria Chowdhury Al-Madani. Another congregation is scheduled between 8:30am and 9:00am at the Sadra Hamidia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa Ground, where Pirzada Arifullah Chowdhury will lead the prayers.

According to Arifullah Chowdhury, followers of Sadra Darbar Sharif have been observing Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, and Eid-ul-Azha in line with parts of the Muslim world since 1928. What began with limited participation has now spread across multiple districts in Bangladesh.

A devotee, Monayem Hossain, said reports of moon sightings in countries such as Afghanistan and Mali were deemed “uncertain and questionable” after verification. “Eid cannot be observed based on doubt. Therefore, we completed 30 days of Ramadan before celebrating,” he added.

Villages observing Eid today include Sadra, Someshpur, Alipur, Balakhal, Monihar, Protapur, and Basara in Hajiganj; several areas in Faridganj, Matlab, and parts of Kachua upazilas.

The tradition dates back to 1928, when Maulana Ishaq (RA), founder of Sadra Darbar Sharif, introduced the practice of aligning religious observances with Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations. His followers continue to uphold the tradition across different regions of the country.
