The Constitutional Reform Commission has submitted a report to the interim government, recommending major changes in various areas, including the power structure and the type of parliament.

It also recommended changing the state's basic principles and the country's constitutional name.

The report was submitted to Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday (January 15) by Professor Ali Riaz, head of the Constitutional Reform Commission. Later, he highlighted various aspects of their recommendations to journalists.

Ali Riaz said, “We have recommended five fundamental principles of the state as a reflection of the great ideals of the 1971 War of Independence and the aspirations of the people of the 2024 popular uprising. The principles are equality, human dignity, social justice, pluralism and democracy.”

It has been recommended to change the constitutional name of Bangladesh from ‘Ganoprojatontri Bangladesh’ to ‘Janoganotontri Bangladesh’.

He said, "We disagree with the way Bangladesh is called the ‘Ganoprojatontri Bangladesh’. We said that Bangladesh should be known as ‘Janoganotontri Bangladesh’."

Ali Riaz said, “The opinions of about one lakh people were taken while preparing the recommendations of the Constitutional Reform Commission. In addition to the members of the commission, 32 researchers worked on it.”
