A hearing on the charge framing in the case filed over the killing of six individuals, including student activist Anas, during the anti-discrimination student movement in Dhaka’s Chankharpul area is scheduled to take place today (Thursday) at the International Crimes Tribunal.

The murders occurred on August 5 during a mass uprising led by students and members of the public. The tribunal took cognizance of the charges as crimes against humanity on May 25 and issued arrest warrants against four high-ranking police officials who remain absconding.

Four accused—dismissed Shahbagh Police Station Inspector Arshad and constables Sujan, Ijaz Hossain Iman, and Ijarul—were produced before the tribunal this morning.

The tribunal is also set to hear discharge petitions filed on behalf of four fugitive accused: former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman, former Joint Commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, former Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Division Shah Alam Md. Akhtarul Islam, and former Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Imrul.

Petitions filed by two other accused seeking relief from the case will also be heard today.

The case stems from the fatal shooting of six people on August 5 last year, during a demonstration in Chankharpul. The International Crimes Tribunal has categorized the killings as crimes against humanity and continues to pursue legal proceedings against those involved.
