Charge sheet soon, trial to be expedited in Rangpur murders: Minister

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has said the investigation into the Rangpur quadruple murder will be completed and a charge sheet submitted within a short time. A fair investigation is underway to bring the real culprits and anyone else involved to justice, he said.

He made the remarks to journalists after laying the foundation stone of the service building of the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital on Saturday, September 5.

Asadul Habib Dulu said the quadruple murder is a major incident in Rangpur's history. Its mystery is currently under investigation. The most important task is to bring the real perpetrators to justice through a fair investigation. The administration is taking some time to investigate thoroughly. He expressed hope that the charge sheet would be submitted soon and the trial completed quickly.

The minister also spoke about various issues at the hospital. He said since being elected president of the hospital's governing body, he had visited three times and held regular meetings. He will review how many of the decisions from previous meetings have been implemented and why others have not.

He said the new ICU beds could not be activated due to a shortage of anaesthesiologists, but necessary staff have now been deployed, and the new ICU beds are expected to be operational within a month.

Regarding the overall health sector, the minister said every sector, including health, had reached near destruction due to irregularities and corruption over the past 17 years. The current government is giving highest priority to the health sector. There is a manpower shortage across the country, and if necessary staff can be recruited quickly, the needs of various hospital departments can be met.

Earlier, the minister inaugurated the newly constructed regional office of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission Secretariat in Guptapara, Rangpur city.
