Chargesheets filed in 26 cases linked to Mass Uprising

Police have filed chargesheets in 26 cases related to the recent student-public mass uprising against discrimination across the country, including eight murder cases and 18 under various other sections.

The Police Headquarters issued a press release on Thursday (August 21) confirming the developments.

According to the release, the murder cases were filed in Sherpur, Feni, Chandpur, Cumilla, and Kurigram districts, as well as under Chattogram Metropolitan Police.

The other 18 cases, covering charges such as vandalism and obstruction of law enforcement, were filed in Bogura, Chapainawabganj, Sirajganj, Pabna, and Jamalpur districts, along with Dhaka, Barishal, and Rajshahi Metropolitan Police jurisdictions, and the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

A total of 1,153 individuals have been charged in the murder cases, while 682 people are accused in the other cases.

Senior police officials are directly overseeing the investigations to ensure proper legal proceedings.

The statement further noted that efforts are ongoing to complete investigations in the remaining cases and bring those responsible to justice.
