Chattogram crime figure David Imon arrested in Jashore
Mobarak Hossain, alias David Imon, a notorious crime figure long associated with Chattogram's underworld, has been arrested by police.
He was detained at around 3:00 am on Tuesday (July 28) from the Dhumdhumpur area of Jashore, according to Jashore Superintendent of Police Syed Rafiqul Islam, who confirmed the development to the media.
The police chief said David Imon was arrested after intelligence-led surveillance prompted authorities to set up a checkpoint in the Dhumdhumpur area. The operation was carried out jointly by the Jashore and Chattogram district police. Following his arrest, he was handed over to the Chattogram district police.
David Imon is known as a close associate of Boro Sazzad, an alleged top criminal currently absconding abroad. After Chhoto Sazzad was sent to prison, Imon is believed to have taken charge of the criminal network in Chattogram.
He is accused in multiple criminal cases, including the double murder in Bakalia, the high-profile killing of "Dhakaiya Akbar" in Patenga, as well as extortion and illegal arms offences.
Most recently, his name surfaced in connection with an attack and vandalism at the office of internet service provider Digital Dot Net (DDN) after the company allegedly refused to pay Tk 20 million in extortion. Law enforcement agencies had already arrested 17 people over the incident, but Imon, alleged to be the mastermind, had remained at large until his arrest.
