Chattogram Customs Commissioner Zakir Hossain has been temporarily suspended for allegedly disrupting customs operations by participating in the "complete shutdown" of National Board of Revenue (NBR) officials.

His suspension was confirmed through an office order on Tuesday (July 1), signed by Internal Resources Division Secretary and NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan.

According to the order, Zakir Hossain, an officer under the National Board of Revenue (NBR), did not attend work on June 21 and 28. However, earlier on June 18, 2025, an NBR order had cancelled the weekly holiday on June 28 and directed all the concerned officers to attend work. His disobedience to that order has disrupted the important activities of the government. In this context, he has been temporarily suspended under Section 39(1) of the Government Service (Discipline) Rules, 2018.

The protest by NBR officials began after the government issued an ordinance on 12 May dissolving the NBR and the Internal Resources Division, replacing them with the Revenue Policy Division and the Revenue Management Division.
