To mark holy Ashura, the Shia Muslim community in Chattogram organized a Tazia procession to commemorate the tragedy of Karbala. The mourning procession started on Sunday (July 6) from the Imambara in the city’s Sadarghat area.

The procession, led by Maulana Amzad Hossain, the head Imam of Sadarghat Imambara, moved through New Market, GPO, Kotwali Mor, and Alkaran areas before returning to its starting point.

A large number of Shia men and women from Chattogram participated in the procession. They wore black clothes and carried black flags, hand symbols (panja), and banners—symbols of mourning.

Participants beat their chests and chanted Islamic songs and recited verses about Karbala. They expressed deep sorrow and respect in memory of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA) and his followers at the field of Karbala.
